Alright Sunshine

2023

48-page offset printed, handmade publication. Compiled of images deriving from experimental RA-4 and Lith prints made in the darkroom. Shot over two years, the images contemplate ideas around Britishness and masculinity.

The work speaks to the healing power of photography. Using it as a tool for self exploration and reflection. As well as for embracing those within my discourse community. Through the combination of instinctive snapshots and staged portraits of myself and people close to me, I come to understand my own perception of masculinity as well as look for the beauty in everyday moments.

These three portraits became the spine of the book, Alright Sunshine. The photographs are based on classical painting’s, such as Thomas Gainsborough’s Blue Boy 1770, to play with the representation of working-class masculinity.
